         Haven't we been down this road before ;). There is nothing new
there. I was involved in a similar project at Adobe back in 97, and we
reach similar conclusions and built such a system (ZIP archive to store the
data with an XML manifest for catalog and metadata info). The big win
here is that by using an XML manifest, you can get around some of the
limitations of ZIP that they don't bother mentioning (lack of Unicode
support, unextensible info blocks, etc.) but it still leaves others (no
real hierarchy!).
