I do not understand what happenned from AbiWord 0.9.0 to 0.9.2. I would
think as an upgrade and bug fix to the previous versions that it would
have more features. However, after upgrading to the 0.9.2 I noticed
that the Styles feature which had never been functional up till 0.9.0
for me started to work. I was happy as it meant one more thing AbiWord
was able to perform. However, it seems that just a few bug fixes later
and the feature isn't working again. Is there a reason why this has
been removed? If so please try to make sure this feature does get
included before AbiWord 1.0 as I think it should have been included long
ago. Also, I would like to suggest to features I would like to see
added to AbiWord. I doubt that they will be ready in time for 1.0 but I
would like to see them added as soon as they can be. I would like to
see primarily 3 features added. 1) Grammar Check - it appears that
Spell Check works fine but It doesn't appear to have a grammar check.
2) Table Support - I think this is a very important feature that
needs to be added as soon as possible. 3) Document Merging and other
kinds of Merging such as Merging via an address book or possibly even
merging via information supplied via postgres or LDAP. Merging and
table support are, in my opinion, the two most visibly absent features
in AbiWord in comparison to proprietary Word processors. With these
two features added AbiWord will be as capable as Word Processors that
cost hundreds to thousands of dollars. Most other features that Word
processors that cost mega bux possess are just fluff. But these two
features are very important and really should be considered for future
versions of AbiWord. I like AbiWord's speed and relatively simple
interface. There are a lot of good things about AbiWord and it
certainly is a very capable piece of Software for accomplishing most
tasks. However, with a fully working Styles feature, grammar check,
table support, and document/database merging; AbiWord will be very
capable.
