Even when it's confusing and inconsistent? The *only* reason to behave
like other apps is to avoid confusing users. Since the Close behaviour
*does* confuse users, the fact that other applications do it as well is
no reason for doing it.

I'm going to suggest a dialogue again, saying 'Do you want to exit
AbiWord?" Yes/No. On a No, you get a window with a blank document.
Either way, the document gets closed. I don't see this as 'adding a
dialogue to get around programming decisions'. I see this as 'adding a
dialogue so we don't do anything drastic unexpectedly'. There are
elegant programming ways around the problem, but they all seem to
involve abandoning the MSDI. Leaving users confused to avoid adding a
dialogue strikes me as a really bad interface decision. I could be
convinced otherwise, but it would be tough, and would have to refer
specifically to this case.
