standard .el file to setup styles?

How does this sound for an idea (to all of you who use emacs):

We create a file (say, in abi/src) called abiword.el. In this file,
we specify a couple things (like the linux C style, and no tabs).
Then, we add the following at the end of all the source files:

/* -----------------------------------------------------------------
 * local variables:
 * eval: (load-file "../abiword.el")
 * end:
 */

That way, it all gets taken care of automatically. And if we wanted
to change something, it would be easy.

I'm pretty sure this wouldn't affect the rest of you heretics.
