According to Vlad Harchev <hvv@hippo.ru>:

This no longer happens in current version. I remember I fixed some bugs
about this. I can now open it, but since I don't have cyrillic fonts,
I don't get it right :-)

Yes, this a bug in Abiword I already encountered. The problem that when
you open a document, whatever its format is, and ask to save it, it'll save
it in the same format. (i haven't checked with a format we can't save).

The problem is that when the import fails, AW think it is an open file,
which is WRONG. You can file a bug about this.
