Hi folks,

I have put some work into the autoconf framework. It should now be workable
for Unix users, I think. It works for me now :-)

Major enhancements include the automatic configuration and compilation of
all needed peer trees, and the addition of a (working) `make install'.

On the to-do list:
  * Add `make install' support for non-Unix platforms (see earlier mail);
  * Solve bugs 1449 (libgal detection) and 1453 (gnome-config detection),
    and perhaps 1344 (make distclean deletes makefiles)
  * Regarding bug 1344, make sure that make [dist]clean also recurses
    into peer directories
  * Get some feed-back to see whether it works for others too

Good luck,
  Frodo
