The help files are in abi/user/wp/help/. You can check them out by typing the
following:

export CVSROOT=:pserver:anoncvs@cvs.abisource.com:/cvsroot
cd /home/andrea/abi
cvs login
cvs -z9 checkout abi

The password for anoncvs is anoncvs. The modules are:
abi/ abiword-docs/ libiconv/ psiconv/ wv/
abidistfiles/ expat/ libpng/ unixfonts/ zlib/
some or all of which you will need to check out if you want to actually build
AbiWord.

The original is in French and we currently have English and German
translations. When you do it, send it to the list, and one of us will examine
it and hopefully commit it.
