Hm, I've just been looking around for online micro/macro payment
schemes, wondering if it would be possible to let users pay for having
specific bugs fixed in a reasonable timeframe at their request.
I kind of like e-gold.com, but haven't really looked too much into the
details (there was something about a 100$ deposit fee that I didn't
see appear in the quick fee overview).
Problem with this and other online payment mechanisms like it is that
they don't work well with what I imagine is needed:
o someone opens a task description
o people are able to escrow(?) payment
o whoever completes the task collects the money
If there's not enough money to catch developer interest, kill the task
and people get their money back. On the other hand, if someone starts
working on the task, he's assured payment at the end.
I think this is what source-exchange (or the other similar site)
did. Too bad we can't do something similar. We need a trusted 3rd
party to maintain the pot(s) of money.
If you are wondering why I've been looking for this, it's simply
because it was a neat idea for improving the pace of AbiWord
development while allowing active developers to earn a bit of money on
the side. I don't imagine anyone could get rich, or even live, of this
just yet :)
