AbiWord would auto-save it every N minutes until you said File->Close and then
hit "No, I don't want to save my work". At this point, neither the autosaved
document nor the original should be kept around. Keeping around an autosave
file after you said "No, I don't want to keep around my original document" is
erroneous behavior and downright illogical if you ask me. If the work was
important, you just would have answered "Yes, save my document to XYZ.abw" and
even then the autosaved document should go away. No application behaves in the
way that you propose - at least none that I can think of. Even MSWord cleans
up its autosaved and fastsaved documents.
