Yes it's true. Because Indic rendering is so
complicated the main developers want Pango to do the
hard work for us.

On Windows 2000 and up, no special input is needed.
You simply install the Indian languages you want and
they come with fonts and keymaps. Abi also has no
special code for rendering Indic fonts since Windows's
font rendering APIs do all this for you automatically.
At least on Windows 2000 and up. There were problems
though, when selecting text since Abi didn't know
about ligatures at that time and assumed every
character was a certain number of pixels wide. These
are the sort of problems that need specific bug
reports.

Are you a programmer? Do you know much about Pango
and/or OpenType/FreeType? Sooner or later we need
people who know these so we can begin to think about
how to work with them.
