Ask questions on the mailing list. Someone there may be able to help
you.
And the reply you got was less than helpful because you didn't send to
the mailing list, but to the mailing list software.

I received a reply to my urgent appeal, below, from "Majordomo" which was
less than useful.
Please help if you can. If you cannot help, please tell me so.

Subject: Document Conversion2
I am new to Abiword. When I installed it, it changed all 15,000+ word
documents on my hard drive to Abiword .doc Some I can open without problem,
some I cannot. I did not expect this to happen. I want to change all the
documents that were originally Word .doc back to Word .doc.
How do I do that.

>2.1 How do I work with Microsoft Word documents?
At present, AbiWord can open basic Microsoft Word documents well. However,
if the document has complicated tables, embedded spreadsheets, and so
forth, then it might not work as intended. Developing good MS Word filters
is a very difficult process, so please bear with us as we work on getting
Word documents to open correctly. AbiWord cannot currently save in the MS
Word ".doc" format. However, you can save your file as a ".rtf" file, which
is readable by all versions of Microsoft Word.
