I'm fully in favour of a major anouncement. We have
really no idea how far off 1.2 might be - especially
if we have to improve Pango to get our new
    rendering working.

I thought the whole point of the 1.0 release was to
get a lot of attention, testers, and hopeuflly
developers. Really what's the point of the 1.0
    release
if we're going to keep it quiet.

I think we should publicize it but *prominently* state
that *it still doesn't do tables* - we should make
    that
blindingly clear. We should also state all of our
major improvements, I think our l10n and i18n are
getting extremely impressive. We could really do with
a lot more new non-English users. We could really do
with more Windows developers, Mac developers,
non-Englophone developers and users. Without making
a fuss until an unknown point in the future, how are
we going to attract these people?

    Let's do it now.
