    I absolutely agree with this sentiment.
    The whole premise of a stable version is that it
    stays stable, in fact becomes *more* stable.
    In general no new features should be admitted.
    In practice, very minor new features which consist of
    only a few lines could go in but nothing capable of
    introducing new bugs that would require debugging
    both versions.
