    Having said that, I want to save RTFs with a .doc
    extension *when I want to* so if somebody could
    implement a hidden option in the profile or possibly
    a plugin that will only be used by those who know what
    they're doing, I think that would be useful.

    I don't think "Word Document with RTF extension" is
    going to make sense for the majority of users.

    Changing file extensions on Windows is a major pain.
    Especially now that Windows has extensions hidden by
    default. Many of the machines I've used in the past
    12 months have had Control Panel blocked for good
    reasons so it's not even possible to change it
    manually in many cybercafes, libraries, etc.
