    There is an outstanding bug requesting exactly this addition to the user
    interface, or at least i think that is what he wanted the description got
    a bit confusing. i dont know the number offhand.

    when in doubt, look at "the defacto standard" and do it differently if you
    are sure your idea is better.
    word 97 does not have this in the properties menu.
    word has an extra button in the Language Dialog. As well as being able to
    mark the language of the selected text you can click a button marked
    default that changes the default lanuage of the document and the default
    langague of the normal.dot
    (Openoffice.org does not seem to have a langauge option, the relevant
    options seem to be buried somewhere under spelling, it is quite
    disconcerting i did not realise how accustomed to msword i really was.)

    so what is my point? i have no idea. i suppose you could put these
    options in the properties dialog, but just take a look at what other word
    processors do before you decide. It does make a lot of sense to group the
    language options together.
