Karl, thanks a lot for pointing out this mistake.
My original list of languages had the format: English language name, language
iso code, and locale iso code. The 'se' is the iso code for the language and
'se_no' for the locale.
There is a difference between a language and a locale. A language is clear
what is. A locale is a set of conventions determined by human language and
customs, as defined within a particular geo-political region. These
conventions include (but are not necessarily limited to) the written language,
formats for dates, numbers and currency, sorting orders, etc.
For example, English is spoken in Eire and the States (two of the many places
in the World). However, comparing the customs between the States and Eire the
currency (dollar vs euro), date formats (mmddyy vs. ddmmyy), or page size
(letter vs A4), units (inc vs cm) are complety diferent. That the reason why
we have an entry for English US and English (Ireland) because the language is
the same (with dialectal variations) but the cultural conventions are diferent.
In the other side, we should not give this idea to a its maximum expression,
just until it makes sense. For example, Catalan is spoken in Andorra (offical
language), Spain, France, and Italy (Alger). However, most of the software
uses just the locale CA-ES (Spain) because all of them are european countries
and its cultural convetions are basically identical. It really does not make
sense to have CA-FR, CA-AD, etc. However, if someone whats to add the locale
is fine. Then, we should just have locales where it really makes sense.
Best Regards,
