    Eric, this just isn't true. One: we _do_ export OpenOffice.org (only text and span properties for now) . Two: the OpenOffice.org format is _not_ complex. Yes, the specification is contained in a large document (it's kind of pedantic in places), but the subset that AbiWord needs to support is not that big. You can get most of what you need simply by saving OpenOffice.org documents with a feature of interest and examining the XML output.

    To re-iterate: working on the OpenOffice.org filters is a great way to start contributing to AbiWord. It's easy and your efforts should pay off very quickly. Look at the module abiword-plugins/wp/impexp/OpenWriter/ if you're interested.
