This is not exactly true for Windows, both HEAD and STABLE2
presently use the exact same installer script, so both will
default to the same location; assuming you install at
least one to a different spot, both can be installed in
parallel, but only the last one installed can be uninstalled
via the uninstaller and the last one installed will be the
one invoked by extension associations (selected during
installation).
