Hi guys, I'm new to the list.

I was just trying to install Abiword over here, and after trying a few different things, I kinda gave up. Unable to find any help on irc or in the FAQ/Manual, I decided to submit my question to the list. My problem can be reproduced every time:

$ abiword
[ I get the abiword splash, then the main window
pops up along with a dialog, but then everything
disappears before I get a chance to read it.]
/usr/bin/X11/abiword: line 39: 30056 Aborted $ABISUITE_LIBEXEC/AbiWord_d "$@"

I get that output after it dies. It actually ran the binary, but didn't get very far. The little environment-setting launcher script doesn't seem to reveal anything useful.. The next productive thing I tried was run the /usr/share/abisuite/bin/AbiWord_b binary directly. This time, I get to see what I believe to be the same error I saw flash up before:

thread@thbox:/usr/share/abisuite/bin$ ./AbiWord

I now can read the cute gtk dialog: "AbiWord could not find any local font files in its font path..." blah blah.. ooh! It's looking for the fonts in the "following directories" (it only lists one): [/usr/share/abisuite/bin/fonts]. bin/fonts? That's not right. Failing to correct that path, I cave in and make a symlink.

root@thbox:/usr/share/abisuite/bin# ln -s ../fonts .

try again...

thread@thbox:/usr/share/abisuite/bin$ ./AbiWord_d
Can't open /usr/share/abisuite/bin/dictionary/american.hash
Aborted

Oh good. Another symlink made in a similar fashion and we'll try again.

thread@thbox:/usr/share/abisuite/bin$ ./AbiWord_d
Aborted

CRASH! I saw the splash, which led to the main window along with another dialog that looked just like the original one - but I can't read it.

I'm now totally confused. ANY help/feedback/whaef would be greatfully appreciated at this point. I'm way stuck :)

Thanks guys!
