Unix & spell checking

Hello from Chicago --

I'm a new Abiword user, and so far it's a terrific word processor for
Linux...except for the spell-checking. It highlights parts of words that are
spelled correctly (up to the first 6 letters, usually less), and does not
highlight incorrectly spelled words. All this when I have the "Check
spelling as you type" option OFF! When I run the spelling command via the F7
key, it works fine...it just seems to be the auto-checker that's
misbehaving. I looked at the source code, but I couldn't find anything that
screamed out "I'm the code that checks words as you type!" I downloaded the
Windows version on another computer, and *that* spell-checker works as
expected. Is this a bug in the Linux version of Abiword, or does Abiword use
the "ispell" utility and there's a bug in that?

Thanks for any help!
