Subject: AbiWord on RedHat 7

Is anybody else using AbiWord on RedHat 7?
I couldn't install the RPMs, whether because of failed dependencies or
version conflicts or whatever,...
Please excuse me while I waffle.
I downloaded the sources via CVS on Oct 17th and compiled using the
bizarrely conceived gcc-2.96, and after fixing 4 type conflicts with
`iconv' in xap_EncodingManager.cpp the whole package compiled without
a hitch -
- and crashed immediately on start-up. Hmm.
Wiped the obj directory and re-made with kgcc, which chugged along happily
enough and, after installation, AbiWord worked.
Well, except for some bizarre wrapping problem with imported Word docs.
Anyway, I decided to recompile with libwmf, which didn't seem to like
kgcc but maybe I did something wrong, and probably went to completely
unnecessary lengths in compiling gcc-2.95.2 (a learning curveball in a
completely different ballpark, excuse the mixed metaphor).
Had to re-route some header paths in wv, and even added in zlib support
(non-obvious?), but got there finally, and it seems to work (except for
the word-wrap thingy).
The result, if anybody wants to try it out, is at:

Please let me know if it does(n't) work...
Frank
ps. This is where somebody tells me there is already a stable snapshot
available for RedHat 7 and that I have `wasted' (in the
non-self-educational sense) my time... :-)
