I just downloaded the .exe file. It runs fine from cygwin.

I assumed he was asking if he could launch them from the cygwin shell
prompt (after which they would run as normal GUI apps). The answer is
yes. AbiWord is unaware (AFAIK) of the cygwin conventions for
filesystems and drives, so it will behave like a typical
non-cygwin-aware MSWindows app. (I don't know if the installation can
launch from cygwin, but I don't know of a reason why it wouldn't.)

BTW, the difference between the "bidi" and the non-"bidi" package is
whether or not the package has support for bidirectional text built
in.
