Subject: TrueType in Linux

I have followed the instructions on the fonts page at
http://www.abisource.com/support/faq/fonts.phtml to no avail.
I have many TrueType fonts installed and being served by xfs just fine.
However, Abiword still won't recongnize them. I did just what it said and
created the symlinks (my fonts are in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TrueType).
I tried moving the existing fonts out of the /usr/share/AbiSuite/fonts
directory as it suggested and Abiword crashed on launch with a fatal
error. So I put them back in and left the symlinks there as well. I tried
using both sets of fonts.dir/fonts.scale files, i.e. the original
AbiSuite/fonts set as well as the ones in my TrueType directory- no luck
either way.
I am running Red Hat 7.2. Any ideas? The whole reason I turned to Abiword
despite using StarOffice for everything else is so that I could use these
fonts!
Thanks.
