I took the "do some magic on the addresses" option and got an rpm for
the gnome version of abiword. Ive been keeping up to date with evolution
which is keeping most my gnome libs up to date, however the rpm
complained that I needed libgal.so.7. I had 11, 12, 13, 18, and 19 on my
system so I symlinked libgal.so.7 to libgal.so.19, and it appears to run
and work.

[ant@ant bin]$ ldd AbiWord_d |grep libgal
        libgal.so.7 => /usr/lib/libgal.so.7 (0x4049d000)
[ant@ant bin]$ ls -al /usr/lib/libgal
libgal.so.11 libgal.so.12.0.0 libgal.so.18 libgal.so.19.0.0
libgal.so.11.0.2 libgal.so.13 libgal.so.18.0.1 libgal.so.7
libgal.so.12 libgal.so.13.0.0 libgal.so.19
[ant@ant bin]$ ls -al /usr/lib/libgal.so.7
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 12 Jan 24 10:44
/usr/lib/libgal.so.7 -> libgal.so.19*

Im still learning about how the linux loader is meant to work. Many apps
seem to do it incorrectly and cause problems. It is my understanding
that there should be symlinks with varying levels of detail on the
version number, which there isn't, which in this case would be ximians
fault? Eg libgal.so should symlink to libgal.so.19 which might symlink
so libgal.so.19.2 if there was such a version? Then you link abiword to
use libgal.so and check for libgal.so in the rpm so that it will run
with what ever version you have. Is this how things would work in a
perfect world? I fixed it with a symlink anyway, and im up and running
so this is more out of curisoty and consideration for people who dont
understand the OS but just want to write documents.
