You shouldn't need to have ispell installed. You do, however, require a
very recent AbiWord, since there were problems with spelling on FreeBSD
until recently - what version are you running?
Also, what architecture are you using (little- or big-endian)? And how
did you compile AbiWord (make, or configure && make)?
