I would like to make a request for a means of changing the language
interface from within AbiWord rather than having to delve into
Abiword.Profile.
Why? Well, Microsoft (and this possibly applies to Apple as well) has a
list of languages which it recognizes and references within Control
Panel > Regional Settings. These are mainly the majority languages
although there are some exceptions. If your language is not on the list
then its not supported.
I've recently contributed updated strings for the Welsh language (cy-GB)
and as Welsh is not supported by Microsoft within Windows (a Welsh
language spell checker is available for Word 2002 by Microsoft, though)
it isn't possible to access the interface easily. We have, with kind
assistance from FJ Franklin, been able to access the interface in
Windows and Linux via the Abiword.Profile and most is well. (It needs
some adjustment to the translation, etc.)
I would like to be able to publicise in Wales the availability of the
first word processor with a Welsh language interface for use on Windows
and Mac machines of which there are many thousands in Welsh language
medium schools. However, the lack of a fool-proof means of being able to
view the interface is holding this back. I would imagine that this would
be the case for many other minority languages for whom Abiword would be
an ideal starting point as a word processor.
Could we have a means of chosing the language interface within AbiWord,
please?
