I have downloaded and installed AbiWord 1.0.1 from the Sourceforge mirrors.
It runs if I am logged in as Root, but if I am logged in as a User, when I try
to start AbiWord, it crashes with the error message:
Application /usr/share/AbiSuite/bin/AbiWord process 1055 (the number varies)
has crashed due to a fatal error. Segmentation fault.
I try to run AbiWord on one desktop, but all four of my desktops have the
splash screen on them. The splash screens remain until I clear the error
message.
I have tried installing the SuSE jeo RPMs, the Gnome and GTK RPMs, and
compiling the tar.gz version. All give me the same result. The process number
varies with the different installations. With all of the downloaded versions,
I have tried both upgrading the working version which is supplied with SuSE8
and also uninstalling it and doing a fresh install. Can't think of anything
else to try!
I have regularly updated AbiWord and have not had this problem before. As no
one else has mentioned it, I am assuming that it is not a bug but a problem
with my installation. What is puzzling is that it runs when in root. Starting
it from a terminal does not give any messages of libraries missing.
If any one can please help, I would be extremely grateful.
Many thanks
Keith
