Attaching it to a bug report in bugzilla would have been more appropriate,
no worries, now you know for next time.

This sounds familiar.
I remember something about "default font sizes" and that sometimes it
meant 10pt and sometimes it meant 12pt and there were problems guessing
what default meant as it was different in differnt programs/versions of
programs.
but i could be thinking of the wrong thing.

Not currently nor is it likely to be.
No developer has expressed an interest in doing this, nor has anyone
offered a big enough (or any) financial incentive.
Abiword unlike Mozilla does not have a speed problem creating new windows
and if it did then the developers would be far more likely to fix it than
add a tabbed interface.
I expect it would be much easier to added a tabbed interface to the linux
version than it would be to add it to the windows version.
I dont like tabbed interfaces (i will try not to rant) but as this is open
source you can always try and convince* the developers or add it
yourself*. there was a feature request for this somewhere in bugzilla, i
dont know if it is still open, and it has probably been pushed into the
"Abiword Future" section.
