    Peter,

    I found another possibility. While checking for updates for MS Office I ran
    into the following: Microsoft Visual Keyboard. It would appear that you
    must have MS Office installed to use this tool, but I could be wrong. It
    brings up a keyboard that you can use to type by clicking the appropriate
    key on the display. Pointing to a key shows its Unicode and hex values. It
    works perfectly fine with my WinXP and AbiWord 2.0.1. Let me know what you
    find.
