Hi Jonathon,
Unfortunately AbiWord does not have this feature yet. You can
Achieve the same result using a full with table then utrning off the lines
surrounding the text.

Insert a new column in the this position of the table. Merge all the cells
in the column vertically. Then use the format table dialog to turn off the
line above, to the left and below the text.
