It is a bit more obscure but you could also export to LaTeX and then use
texpdf (or was it latexpdf) and convert directly to PDF while still
preserving hyperlinks. (I think I might need to tweak the export format
of the hyperlinks, but I haven't had time to look at it).
Last time I tried this (around Abiword 2.0) I didn't quite manage to PDF
with hyperlinks but I'm sure if I try harder I'll be able to get it to
work. Unfortunately the LaTeX exporter does not yet support all the
current features like footnotes and endnotes, but if I can get PDFs
with hyperlinks I'll be well pleased.
I'm still waiting for someone really adventurous and knowledgable about
all things XML to get PDF using the XSL-FO exported by abiword.
If you can get a Gnome-print enabled version of Abiword as Hubert has
recommened that is by far the best option though.
