Hub is working on a native Cocoa OS X version of AbiWord but he has been
keeping it very close to his chest because he doesn't want to upset or
disappoint any Mac users with an incomplete product, as a Mac user himself
he knows their expectations are high. I feel I shouldn't even be
mentioning it outside of the developer mailing list
    http://abisource.com/mailinglists/abiword-dev/
but EAZen mentioned it in passing in last weeks AbiWord News (see second
    paragraph)
    http://www.abisource.com/information/news/2004/awn178.phtml

There was also an X11 version of abiword called XAbiWord that worked with
OS X but required an X Server but I think it was pulled so as not to give
a false suggestion that we supported OS X yet and that it was somewhat
inconvenient to use. (My recollection is very hazey though and will
definately need to be corrected by those more knowledgable)

(here are some of the first links I found about XAbiword for XDarwin
    http://www.abisource.com/mailinglists/abiword-dev/02/January/0406.html
FJF used to have information but he removed it

at the bottom of the page it says
    "Last update November 20th 2003"

The 'development release' is what is in CVS, I think there is an abicocoa
module. In line with what I said earlier it is deliberately being kept a
    difficult and incovenient for non-developers.

I believe he has made a lot of progress recently and although I would
like to say optomistic things about it I dont want to risk raising
anyones hopes and I'm sure Hubert will respond soon.
