footnotes

I've just installed the 2.08 version of abiword (I downloaded it from
Sourceforge on your website) on Windows 95, and I'm not getting the
footnotes to work. It'll insert a number in the text, but it doesn't let
me write anything in the space down below. Am I doing something
wrong?--Karen
