For a long time AbiWord has been able to take donations at its PayPal
account:
cinamod_at_hotmail.com (which is administered by the trustworthy Head
Honcho and rights holder, Dom Lachowicz)
And now to make it more convenient (and public) we've also enabled the
donation facility at our SourceForge project page:
https://sourceforge.net/donate/index.php?group_id=15518
or
http://sourceforge.net/donate/index.php?group_id=15518
And you of course can make the donation through your existing PayPal
account or if you don't have one and do not want to open one, just enter
your payment info for this one time. As always, it is PayPal, so it is
secure, transactions kept on record, etc.
The money is used for server upkeep and the recent replacement,
developer expenses (like the annual Gnome User And Developer European
Conference), patch prizes when awarded, bug day prizes when we find the
time and people, etc.
No donation is too small for us, though donations less than one U.S.
dollar through direct PayPal risk being engulfed by the small PayPal
fee, and the minimum contribution through SourceForge is five U.S.
dollars. We know that free software users aren't notoriously wealthy
but every bit helps, and we appreciate the sentiment, it is good for
morale (-:
If you like, you can make a suggestion about possible use for the money,
though there isn't enough donation traffic or time available for us to
guarantee anything. Another popular option that we encourage is to
attach a reward to a specific bug report or feature request.
So there it is, one more convenient way to support the development of
AbiWord. Let us know if there is any problem with it or if we can do
anything to make donations even easier.
We greatly appreciate all the people who've made donations to AbiWord.
Without your support, both monetary and moral, AbiWord couldn't be the
world-renowned free word processor that it is today. Thank you for
using and supporting AbiWord.
Best regards
-MG
