Could you try opening Microsoft word produced RTF files in notepad and
deleting some of the tags and see if the document still works?
in particular the tag
{\*\generator Microsoft Word 10.0.6612;}

(Someone did say earlier that Microsoft Wordpad aka Microsoft Write
produced RTF files work didn't they?)

I have created a bug report to track this but it is very likely the
developers will close it as invalid unless we can identify a specific
problem with the Abiword RTF output.
