Formatting/Inserting Source Code

I have fallen in love with Abiword, but I have serious problem. I write
allot of essays, tutorials and presentations on the Perl programming
language. I am having an awful time inserting source code into my abiword
documents. I thought I would 'toss' this at the mailing lists, to see if
anybody else has ran into this problem? Or if they know of a work around or
third-party tool? Any help and suggestions would be much appreciated.
