Hit the Insert key. (The Insert key is usually found on the upper right
between the main keyboard and the number pad.)

You must have accidentally hit it it earlier at some point and switched
from Insert mode (normal) to Overwrite mode. Hitting it again should
switch you back from Ovewrite to Insert mode.

You should see INS/OVR in the statusbar.

Also to help identify this problem they abiword developers also made the
cursor change colour to red to indicate overwrite mode.

Almost everyone asks this question at least once. Now you know so it is
your duty to help when it happens to someone else!
