There is only one way to enter Overwrite mode and that is by pressing the
Insert key, normally located in a group of six keys located above the
arrow keys.

[Insert] [Home] [Page Up ]
[Delete] [ End] [Page Down]

Pressing Insert again will switch back from Overwrite to Insert Mode.

If you dont have an Insert Key (possibly labelled INS or Ins) I really
dont understand how you could have gotten into this state in the first
place. One of your keys must be mapped to this, worts case you can go
through each key, trial and error to find out which one it is.

(Again I express my ongoing gratitude to the developers for adding the red
cursor and making it so much easier to identify when this problem
happens.)
