" Can't open Abiword text editor file - any ideas?
When I try to open one of my Abiword files I get this message:
"Parse error loading file ..., mismatched tag at line 184"
I then get a message
"Abiword cannot open (name of file). It appears to be an invalid document."
Any ideas as to how I can open the file?"
I've now solved the problem. I made a copy of the file in question so I
could experiment with it, then used an editor called CPad to remove all the
code from the offending line 184, and I left that line blank ie no code,
then saved the file and Abiword opened the file quite happily.
It seems that yesterday I pasted into the file part of a webpage from the
internet and that was where the offending line 184 code came from that
Abiword rejected. So if anybody else experiences this kind of problem as
they probably will, try opening the file with an html code editor and
deleting the code in the line Abiword tells you is the problem line (you
need an editor that numbers each line of code so you can easily find the
problem line).
Hope this makes sense.
