You've helped me find two ways of achieving this.
a/ As instructed in your last step-through (contents of top of letterhead
in body, using footer before continuous section break. Footer then shows on
first page only).
b/ Putting the contents of the top of the letterhead in the body and then
ALMOST following your first suggestion (Choose "footer different on first
page" then delete the contents of the footer on page 2). I was not able to
delete the contents of the header on the second page because of the deep
empty header on the following pages, but I was able to delete the contents
of the footer without any problems (the footer is only one character deep).
