I'm about at my wits' end!
Under Snow Leopard (10.6), I am installing a custom spellcheck
dictionary for Cornish in /Library/Spelling/ -- Hunspell is built into
the Mac OS.
I have a friend with an old machine who has to use Leopard (10.5), and
so Hunspell won't work.. I am told.. but I can use OpenXSpell.
Except that I can't find out how to install it.
The OpenXSpell installer says this:
=====
OpenXSpell -- Open Source spell checking service for Mac OS X
Cornelis Swanepoel <crs@cygnusblack.co.uk>
It is required to have completed the installation steps as outlined in
http://www.cygnusblack.co.uk/openxspell/install.html
This includes installing
* MacPorts
* Enchant (via MacPorts)
* At least one spell checking backend, Hunspell is recommended (via
MacPorts)
For further information see the OpenXSpell home page:
http://www.cygnusblack.co.uk/openxspell/
and the OpenXSpell SF.net project page:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/openxspell/
To report OpenXSpell bugs, please use the tools available on the
OpenXSpell SF.net project page.
ALL feedback will be appreciated.
=====
Now the first problem is that there are no instructions at http://www.cygnusblack.co.uk/openxspell/install.html
and Cornelis Swanepoel has not responded to e-mail. So I tried to do
it manually.
I went to MacPorts, which said I had to have XCode installed.
(Naturally I downloaded the newest one, which won't work on Leopard,
but I got the right one eventually.) I installed XCode, and I
installed MacPorts.
Then the instructions say I have to install Enchant "via MacPorts". I
could not find any information on the MacPorts site about Enchant. I
came here, and can't find a Mac installer for Enchant.
Then I am supposed to install Hunspell "via MacPorts".
Perhaps I don't know what "via" means here. I have tried to get some
information from the MacPorts side but no luck there.
Can anyone help? Thanks.
