When printing, chars are replaced with square graphic char

When printing, chars are replaced with square graphic char.

=app-office/abiword-2.8.6-r1 cups readline -collab -debug -gnome -grammar
-latex -math -openxml -ots -plugins -spell -thesaurus -wmf -wordperfect

Changing fonts within Abiword does not help. I have no problems printing from
other applications such a OpenOffice/LibreOffice, Seamonkey, VIM, ...
