Abi-Word and Linux

I recently downloaded the 0.7.6-1 build (.rpm version) of AbiWord for
Linux and Gnome. I tried using the source code, but couldn't get it to
build. As a long time Word user when I used Windows, I must say I think
the program has potential. It has a very nice presentation under Gnome
and Enlightenment, very good fonts display (like the rest of Gnome) and
seems generally compliant with the rest of the system.

Now the bad part: When AbiWord is running, the screen re-draws are
really slow. I suspect it uses an inordinate amount of video memory.
Second, and much more of an issue for me is, when executing certain
functions such as highlighting text or using the scroll wheel on my
mouse (Logitech Mouseman 3 button with scroll wheel), the program will
often core out and exit. Look at the core file, I suspect this is a
memory issue with the system operating near the edge of the available
video memory. I have a Pentium 200 (no PII or III) with 64 megs of
memory and a Diamond Viper 330v video card. Hope to upgrade soon, but
for now, that's it.

AbiWord just seems a bit temperamental yet, but I like it.

Any ideas on this? Do you need more info?
