XML file storage

Greetings,
I'm evaluating AbiWord at the moment (0.7.5 on NT4ws, Linux 2.2.9 RH6mdk),
and so far I like what I see.
I'm very interested in being able to save my documents in a useful format
- in fact, this is probably the most important feature, close to "being
similar to MSWord" so my users understand it :-)
Although I haven't yet searched through the source distribution, I
wondered what DTD was being used for the save files?
What I can see at the moment suggests that almost all things are
paragraphs, but with different styling characteristics, which is very close
to the way that MS Word handles things. I was sort of expecting to find
different tags being used for, say, paragraphs and headings. I must admit
that my knowledge of XML is not yet very ... "practical", so perhaps I've
missed something obvious.
I guess in some ways I was expecting to see a general purpose XML wysiwyg
editor, with a combination of DTD and "style sheets", but I gather that
there is no wider concensus on this scheme yet ...
Any comments?

-jim
