i've got SuSE 5.2 on another disk, i'll reboot and see if i have any problems.
could you confirm that those word97 docs load ok on your redhat system ??

i'm curious if the stdc++ libraries are still necessary. we had them
in there because some code was using c++ iostreams -- but that *bug*
was fixed (#164). so it may be the case that we can eliminate that
library from the build.
