AbiWord supports writing HTML or XHTML, the former intended as an
IE-friendly version of the latter. In addition, AbiWord has some support
for reading XHTML. The quality if this import varies somewhat with
AbiWord version, so you should make sure you have the latest AbiWord.

0.9.6-1 will not support arbitrary HTML. There is a plugin currently being
developed which will support arbitrary HTML, and that will probably be
included in the next release, probably "0.99.2", which is expected in a
week or so.

However, the plugin still requires considerable development, so it could
be another month or so before it's properly usable. Hopefully it will be
up to scratch by the time AbiWord-1.0 gets out the door. Until then, if
you feel like test-driving the plugin, then great!

Such faith is gratifying... :-)

It's getting them wrong that is living, getting them wrong and wrong and
wrong and then, on careful reconsideration, getting them wrong again.
That's how we know we're alive: we're wrong.
