    I cannot emphasise enough how important this is (to reply onlist).

    If you are worried that your answer is incorrect and choose to post
    offlist that is no excuse not to make sure that you post it on list if you
    find out that your answer/random guess was correct and approrpriate.

    While i often post my random guesses offlist i do make a point of
    encouraging people to reply onlist if i am correct. Sometimes i even set
    the Reply-To: header to both me and the list to make this even clearer.

    The list gets archived on the web, and every good response onlist
    increases the chance of a user finding the right answer the want simply by
    using Google (or other search engine).
    The more content and information full of links we produce the better, it
    is marketing and only serves to increase the likely hood of a random
    search about Word Processing http://www.abisource.com
    turning up a link to Abiword. :)

    Ideally if your answer is correct you would take the time to add it to the
    FAQ, which as a Wiki based system is designed to encourage everyone to
    contribute.
