    As far as I know, the Gnome Usability Team thinks that
    this is a poor idea. So much so that the next revision
    of the file dialog probably won't have that feature.

    We're just following everyone else's lead. It's nice
    to have consistency with the other Gnome Applications.

    If you want to delete a file, use a file manager like
    Nautilus. The "Open/Save File" dialog is not a file
    manager.

    Please don't feel the need to respond to this. If the
    stock GTK file chooser doesn't provide the
    functionality you're looking for, we're not going to
    add it. This is the wrong place for such a discussion.
