XML-support

Hi there,
I was looking for a word processor that supports xml and finally decided to check out abiword (after asking google about a xml-supporting word processor).
Well, there's just one problem, what kind of xml is abiword using? This seems not to be plain xml. The sense of xml is to separate style and content of a document. Can anybody tell me if I can use abiword like this? Import a plain xml document while abiword loads the style informations (css, xsl) in background?
The export in xml with abiword is a good idea, but it doesn't seems to be very useful. Why aren't you separating the style informations of the document? How can I do this?
Well, abiword is a great word processor. But the xml-support (also xsl-fo and docbook) seems to me like not that perfect. I also tried to open a xsl-fo file but this didn't work.
Last question:
The docbook import/export: How can I customize the tags of abiwords docbook style and the style (the tags) I want to use?

I am working on Windows XP and abiword 2.2.7.

Thank you very much,

Bye.

Lenny
