Converting files...

Hello,

I've downloaded abiword-2.2.5 onto my Linux (Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4)
system. I installed it from the RPM.

I also downloaded the abiword-plugin rpm and the abiword-openwriter plugin
RPM.

I can't, however, seem to get this to work correctly. WHen I run Abiword
and open the plugin manager, the openwriter plugin isn't listed as being
installed and I can't seem to install it manually. I just get a pop up
window sayhing "Could not activate/load plugin".

The openwriter plugin rpm basically puts some .so and .la files into the
/usr/share/AbiSource/AbiWord/plugins directory, but even when I browse to
that directory in the plugin manager, it doesn't seem to recognize the
files.

Also, I'd like to know how to convert star office to .abw files on the
command line. It is just: abiword-2.2 -t abw <myfile.sxw>?

The real bottom line is that I'm trying to write a script to convert star
office documents to MS Office (Don't ask why, it's a political thing) and
I was hoping to use Abiword to accomplish this task rather than trying to
use Open Office directly because it's such a hassle (Running a headless OO
instance, writing Java scripts with the UNO API, etc...)

any help appreciated.
